Flooring

A cracked tile may point to impact damage, poor support, or movement below the floor. Learn which clues matter and how to choose between a local repair and replacement.

Choosing between 12 mil and 20 mil vinyl plank? Compare wear layers, finishes, warranties and daily traffic to find the right fit for your Florida home.

LVP can often be installed over sound terrazzo, especially with an approved floating rigid-core product. Before covering an original Florida floor, check the terrazzo type, cracks, divider strips, flatness, wax or sealer, slab moisture, underlayment rules, and the added height at doors and appliances.

Florida condo flooring projects often need written association approval, assembly-specific acoustic documentation, and an underlayment compatible with both the building and flooring manufacturer. Learn how IIC, STC, field ratings, and ΔIIC differ, what to verify in a test report, and how slab moisture, flatness, installation method, and condo logistics affect the approved system.

Flooring installation may take one day for a simple room or more than a week for a larger, preparation-heavy project. Compare realistic timelines for LVP, laminate, hardwood, and tile, including removal, subfloor work, acclimation, curing, trim, and the wait before normal use.

LVP can often be installed over existing ceramic or porcelain tile when the tile is firmly bonded, flat, dry, and approved by the flooring manufacturer. Learn when grout lines need filling, how height and moisture affect the plan, and when tile removal is safer.

LVP can separate, click, or move because of uneven support, damaged locking edges, restricted expansion, unsuitable underlayment, moisture, or adhesive failure. Learn how the symptoms differ and what a lasting repair requires.

Before installing LVP, laminate, or tile, the floor underneath must be flat, stable, clean, and properly prepared. “Flat” does not always mean perfectly level, but dips, humps, ridges, low spots, soft areas, and uneven transitions can cause serious flooring problems. LVP and laminate can flex, click, gap, or separate over uneven areas, while tile can crack, loosen, or show lippage. This guide explains how flat a floor needs to be, why different materials have different tolerances, and when floor leveling or subfloor repair is needed before installation.

A moisture barrier may be needed under vinyl plank flooring on concrete, but the answer depends on the LVP product, installation method, slab moisture conditions, and manufacturer requirements. Waterproof vinyl plank does not automatically mean the entire flooring system is protected from moisture. Concrete can release moisture vapor, and trapped moisture can affect underlayment, adhesive, baseboards, odors, and long-term performance. This guide explains when a vapor barrier is required, when it may not be needed, and what homeowners should check before installing LVP over concrete.

SPC and WPC vinyl plank flooring are both popular rigid-core LVP options, but they feel and perform differently. SPC is usually denser, firmer, and more dent-resistant, while WPC is often softer, warmer, and more comfortable underfoot. For Florida homes, the best choice depends on the room, concrete slab condition, moisture risk, pets, traffic, comfort expectations, and installation quality. This guide explains what homeowners should know before choosing SPC or WPC vinyl plank flooring.
